Wild is the Future!
South Lake Tahoe Hosts the Fourth Annual Wild and Scenic
Environmental Film Festival OnTour

Come join us for an inspirational night of films & fun when the Sierra Nevada Alliance and Patagonia present the Fourth Annual Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival On Tour on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Lake Tahoe Community College in South Lake Tahoe.

Hosted by the Sierra Nevada Alliance and Patagonia@Heavenly, and sponsored by the South Yuba River Citizen's League (SYRCL) and Patagonia, the Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival On Tour sits apart from the hundreds of festivals around the world by hopefully leaving you feeling inspired and motivated to go out and make a difference in your community and the world.

A few of the featured films at this year’s event are:

American Outrage – Two feisty elderly Western Shoshone sisters who graze their livestock outside their ranch are sued for trespassing on US Public Land. Why would the US spend millions prosecuting two elderly women grazing a few hundred horses and cows in a desolate desert?  Awards: 2009 Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival Honorable Mention & Audience Award Ashland Independent Film Festival

Homegrown Revolution – In the midst of a densely urban setting in downtown Pasadena, radical change is taking root. For over twenty years, the Dervaes family have transformed their home into an urban homestead. They harvest nearly 3 tons of organic food from their 1/5 acre garden while incorporating many back-to-basics practices, as well as solar energy and biodiesel.

Justicia Now! – A courageous group of people called Los Afectados (The Affected Ones) battle Chevron Texaco and seek justice in the largest environmental class action lawsuit in history.  Awards: Audience Award, EcoFocus Film Festival

The Last Descent – Join a group of whitewater kayakers from Sacramento to some of the world’s most amazing rivers… descending them for possibly the last time. The rivers are in the process of being destroyed by large scale hydroelectric projects. The film closes with a movement to restore Hetch Hetchy Valley. Award:  Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival People’s Choice Award. In Person: Kathryn Scott, Charlie Center, Scott Ligare.
