Environmental Film Festival OnTour

Come join us for an inspirational night of films & fun when the Sierra Nevada Alliance and Patagonia present the Fourth Annual Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival On Tour on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Lake Tahoe Community College in South Lake Tahoe.

Hosted by the Sierra Nevada Alliance and Patagonia@Heavenly, and sponsored by the South Yuba River Citizen's League (SYRCL) and Patagonia, the Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival On Tour sits apart from the hundreds of festivals around the world by hopefully leaving you feeling inspired and motivated to go out and make a difference in your community and the world.

2009 Film Festival Titles, Bios & Trailer Links

  1. Maybe – The busy, modern world in which we live can be a confusing place. This animated short tackles the sometimes scary questions facing us in these times from a child's perspective, but in a manner relatable to all.

  2. Justicia Now – A courageous group of people called Los Afectados (The Affected Ones) battle Chevron Texaco and seek justice in the largest environmental class action lawsuit in history. Audience Award, EcoFocus.

  3. Litterball - An old man and a little girl clean up the park with a little ingenuity.

  4. Homegrown Revolution – In the midst of a densely urban setting in downtown Pasadena, radical change is taking root. For over twenty years, the Dervaes family have transformed their home into an urban homestead. They harvest nearly 3 tons of organic food from their 1/5 acre garden while incorporating many back-to-basics practices, as well as solar energy and biodiesel.

  5. The Good Life Parable – A business man and a fisherman meet on a small island. The business man tries to teach the fisherman about business, but instead the man learns about life.

  6. American Outrage – Carrie and Mary Dann are feisty elderly Western Shoshone sisters who have always grazed their livestock outside their ranch in north central Nevada. That range is part of the Shoshone land from the 1863 Treaty of Ruby Valley. In 1974, the US sued the sisters for trespassing on US Public Land. Why would the US spend millions prosecuting two elderly women grazin a few hundred horses and cows in a desolate desert? Audience Award, Ashland Independent.

  7. Zoologic – A fussy zookeeper goes about his daily routine, but he must contend with a very uncooperative little penguin. Student Academy Award.

  8. Climate Matters – In 2007, Brighter Planet held an online video contest to galvanize the creative energy of individuals across the country and spur on Washington to pass meaningful climate legislation. The top ten videos were broadcast over 50 million homes and shown to the media, members of Congress, and both presidential campaigns at an October 2008, event in Washington.

  9. Paprioflexia – Spanish for “origami” Papiroflexia, is the animated tale of Fred, a skillful paper folder who could shape the world with his hands. Multiple awards.

  10. Historia de un Letrero – With a stroke of a pen, a stranger transforms the afternoon for another man. Short Film Online Competition, Cannes FF.

  11. Last Descent – Join a group of whitewater kayakers to some for the world’s most amazing rivers…descending them possibly for the last time. All are threatened or are in the process of being destroyed by large scale hydroelectric projects. The film closes with the movement to restore the Hetch Hetchy Valley.

  12. Wombat - In less than a minute, this rapid-fire animation tells you everything you need to know about how to get along on earth for the next million years. Interconnected, all is one, Wombat.
