The Land Use Program at the Sierra Nevada Alliance is excited to announce the 2009 Sierra Land Use Summit. A struggling economy combined with some of the strongest statewide smart growth legislation ever passed in California combine to create a new landscape for planning in the Sierra. Join the Alliance and co-hosts, Sierra Business Council and Planning and Conservation League, for a day-long series of workshops covering new opportunities and incentives for more efficient planning in the Sierra.
Topics of the day will include:
- An overview of how and where the new climate change legislation, SB 375 and SB 732, may be applied in the Sierra from statewide climate change policy experts.
- New funding opportunities for smart growth planning and project implementation.
- Strategies for the creation of more sustainable local economies and environments.
- The future of water and wastewater infrastructure in rural areas – including the concept and reality of AB 885 and improving the infrastructure efficiency of new growth.
