The main goal of the Northern Sierra Program is to ensure the long-term supply and quality of water resources and relevant ecosystems supporting flora, fauna and community needs in the region. To achieve this goal, there are many ongoing projects. However the following are our focal projects for 2010: • Imperiled Native Trout: Working collaboratively with partners and the community to help recover these species (Lahontan cutthroat trout, Paiute cutthroat trout, Eagle Lake rainbow trout, and native non-game fish) to a broader historic range and to protect existing wild populations. • Meadow Restoration for Sierra Imperiled Native Trout: Partnering with University of Nevada, Reno, UCDavis, implementing agencies, and Trout Unlimited to assess existing meadow restoration projects and methods for prioritization in the future. • Forest Service Regional Plan Updates for the Sierra Nevada: Leading the effort to provide recommended conservation strategies on aquatic resources and invasive species inclusion into the revised FS plans. • South Tahoe Citizen Stream Monitoring Project: Partnering with the Sierra Nevada Alliance and local regulatory agencies to conduct regular water quality and streamside habitat monitoring of South Tahoe tributaries to assess the effects of local land use practices and help prioritize future restoration efforts.
