Community Group Support Program

A key to protecting the Sierra is strengthening the work of countless people and groups seeking a balance in which Sierra communities can grow without destroying the human and natural resources that make them special. With over 80 member groups from Susanville to Kern county, the Alliance:

  1. offers organizational, financial and technical support,

  2. builds networks and links amongst member groups and experts,

  3. facilitates organizationslearning from each other, and

  4. garners statewide attention for local efforts to build greater public awareness of Sierra problems and solutions.

Goal: To focus regional planning efforts on protecting landscapes at the watershed level and efficiently allocating public funds for the protection and restoration of all natural resources within this framework.

  • Be a Grantmaker
The Alliance is perfectly positioned to act as the regional regranting entity for the Sierra Nevada, to distribute both private and public funds to the many effective grassroots and community-based groups working to conserve the natural resources of the range.

  • Provide Access to Training
Member groups have requested help with locating technical and scientific expertise and training to strengthen their on-the-ground conservation efforts and their organizational capacity.

  • Improve Visibility for Groups
Helping the groups in their on-the-ground conservation efforts is one side of the equation; getting the word out about them is the other.

  • Keep Member Groups Informed
With 81 member groups, the Alliance staff is kept on its toes responding to requests for advice and information.

  • Provide Networking Opportunities
The Alliance's big-picture scope is used most effectively when we put people together, both in person and using other communication technologies, who need to be talking to each other. Providing opportunities for activists to meet and learn from each other is one of the most valuable contributions the Alliance can make to the Sierra.
